Thailand Adventures

When we started planning our Thailand escape, we knew we wanted to spend time in Phuket and Bangkok, but like every other holiday we have been on, we did not want to plan this down to the minute.

We wanted to give ourselves enough time and space to explore, head off the beaten track, and sit by the pool. Anyone who knows us, knows this is extremely unlike us, but hey – we wanted to try out a relaxing holiday and see if it was something we could do.

We booked flights, accommodation, transfers and resisted the urge to fill every hour of every day with tours and activities. We did book the Bridge Over the River Kwai and Hellfire Pass Tour with BKK Tours before we left, but this was to ensure we did not miss out, as this was the only tour we could find that also covered the Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre and walk of the trail. This was a very easy process to book, with excellent communications from them along the way – but we will share more about BKK Tours in a later blog post.

With most of our previous travels being around Australia and the United States, why did we head to Thailand?

Well, because in June, it is winter in Australia – and it is not winter in Thailand. Many of our previous holidays have somehow managed to extend winter, so we were eager to avoid this!

Have we ever been to Thailand before?

Half of team Harrigan had been to Thailand before, but this was many, many years ago. But this did provide some frame of reference and gave us the confidence to holiday in Asia.

Where can we see all of the photographs from our travels?

Some handy resources we found when planning our Thailand adventure include:

  • Phuket 101: https://www.phuket101.net – great information relating to all things Phuket, updated regularly and full of beautiful images
  • Phuket (Thailand) Groupies Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1615024495403631 – very active Facebook group, with lots of information about where to buy certain items, hints, tips, hacks etc. We also found that many of the stallholders knew about this group and were generally more generous with bartering for members of this group.
