Pete leapt out of bed like a kid on Christmas day. Today was Oakley HQ day!
We were up early, and arrived at 1 Icon (Pete’s happy place) not too long after they opened. The tank in the driveway and the torpedo statue out the front tells you this not a normal office.
Pete had some very serious business to take care of first, he had already emailed ahead to arrange a replacement set of lenses for one of his favourite pairs of glasses. Next, he sampled the cutting edge sunglasses cleaning machine. I will admit, it was pretty impressive. So with both of our Oakley’s clean and shining like new, Pete shifted his attention to buying another pair of Oakleys. Much oooing and ahhhing later, he finally decided on a pair. I do not know how many pairs this now means he owns, I guess it is like my shoes, the other is best not knowing what the true tally is.
Next it was onto my happy place, Disneyland! We got a one day hopper, meaning we were able to visit both parks, and could ‘hop’ between the two as many times as we needed. We first hit the California Adventure Park and Ariel’s Adventure, which was a lot like the Haunted Mansion (as far as the carriages that you ride in, and general basis of the ride go) it was just themed for the Little Mermaid. It was pretty freaking cute. Next we stopped for a bite to eat. It was hot as hell and we could not make up our minds on real food, so we each ended up with a choc waffle cup sundae. I think I am still coming down from the sugar high of this concoction. I highly recommend the sundae though, even with it’s $20AU price tag! Next we hit up Goofy’s Flight School and California Screaming, had our picture taken with Woody and then worked our way to the Tower of Terror. I love that ride! We were pretty lucky with the wait times and is why we wanted to go to Disneyland on a Monday and not over the weekend.
Next we hopped on over to Disneyland. There are more rides here and so we spent a bulk of our day here. We were able to ride Space Mountain, which has now been renamed to align with the Star Wars – Force Awakens, which is all the rage. We were also able to ride the Star Wars Star Tours ride, which has not changed much since I rode it in 1995 but they do try to update the content to make it relevant. The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party was next on the list. I freaking love that ride! I could ride it all day! I wanted to spin the cup off its little hinges but Pete urged restraint. This became a tug of war over the round, spinny wheel at the centre of the tea cup. Sure, I got to spin, just not like Taz e Devil…
The park was absolutely heaving at this point and it seemed to be getting busier. We rode Splash Mountain and the Indian Jones ride, before we headed out of the park for a quick bite to eat for our final few hours in the park. There was the big parade, which was especially awesome as it was all special lights to celebrate the 60th Anniversary. Before we knew it, it was 9pm and the park was closing. Such a jam packed, fun filled day!
We downloaded the Disneyland App which was a Godsend withreviewing live wait times on rides. It is free, so make sure you have it on your phone when you head over there.
Bidding farewell to Memphis, we continued west to Oklahoma. Yes, there is a song about that. Yes, it was playing in my head for much of the drive. Ooooooooklahoma, where the sun comes sweeping down…

Very early (at an absolutely ungodly hour) we arose for our tour of Monument Valley. Luckily we were the only two people on the tour, so we kinda got to run the show. It was…

The trip to DC is probably best summed up by Pete. “Washington can go f**k itself.” For starters, we should have known it was going to be a tad dodgy when we had our car…
With the assistance of an alcoholic beverage (or two in Pete’s case) we slept all the way through and have hopefully now aligned our bodies with USA time. We got up early and hit the…
